What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymph massage is a gentle massage technique designed to encourage the natural drainage of lymph. This massage uses light pressure to stimulate the lymphatic system which cleanses and nourishes our cells.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage Technique is a gentle approach that does not use creams or oils. The practitioner will identify stagnant, congested areas of the body and gently push the old lymph out of lymph vessels making room for fresh lymph to refill in the body, acting as a pump system to help stimulate the bodies immune system. The abdomen is also commonly flushed using gentle lymphatic techniques to assist with full body detoxification. This helps restore proper circulation in the body.
Why do people seek out a trained Lymphatic Drainage therapist?
Lymphatic Drainage can be used to flush the body of toxins to prevent illness or hasten recovery after a period of illness. It also helps to reduce inflammation and pain throughout the body. This lymphatic treatment can help those healing from a surgery, detoxifying after medical treatments, and is beneficial for those with fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. This can also be a lovely way to promote deep relaxation after periods of heavy stress. Our lymphatic drainage therapist has advanced training in lymph drainage therapy (LDT) through the Chikly Health Institute.
Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Massage:
What to expect during a treatment?
Lymphatic drainage technique is very different from a traditional massage that manipulates muscle. Lymph massage is a very light and extremely relaxing treatment for the lymph system. You will feel the practitioner gently push in a rhythmic motion, on areas of tension and discomfort. As the body is filled back up with fresh lymph you may fill a gentle warmth throughout the body as stagnation dissipates. Discomfort and tension may feel as though it is softly melting away.
After a lymphatic massage clients report feelings of relaxation, pain reduction, slight tingling throughout the body. A select few may have headaches or slight fatigue after the sessions as the body adjusts to the increased movement of lymph. Clients need to make sure they stay hydrated and nourished after treatments. Heavy meals are not recommended right before a lymph massage.

FAQs
Which Lymphatic Drainage session should I book?
You must book a lymphatic drainage POST-OP session if you have had surgery in the past 6 months. We offer manual lymphatic drainage only. If you are currently post-op and seeking physical lymphatic drainage in the Cleveland area, this is out of our scope of practice. Please contact your doctor for physical drainage references.
For all others who have not recently had a surgery please book a 60 or 90 minute lymphatic drainage session.
How soon after surgery can I have Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage?
We recommend that clients come in 2 weeks after surgery to ensure that wounds are healed. This is especially important for those clients who have had more invasive plastic surgery such as 360 liposuction, Tummy Tuck, or a BBL. We do not physically remove lymph from the body. You must book a lymphatic drainage POST-OP session if you have had surgery in the past 6 months.
What should I wear?
If you are unable to lay on your back, please bring a loose fitting tank top and loose-fitting shorts to wear during your appointment. You will receive part of your treatment standing so that we can address the abdomen standing.
