What is a Postpartum Doula?
Postpartum doulas offer emotional and physical care to mothers and their families in the first days and months following childbirth. They are trained and experienced professionals who provide information and guidance, nurturing care, and household duties. During this time of transition, postpartum doulas help mothers and families adjust to life with a new infant.
A postpartum doula is different from a baby nurse. Baby nurses are hired just for the baby and infant care. Postpartum doulas are for the mother, partner, baby, and entire family unit. They are more like a mother figure or close friend who comes to offer support after the baby has arrived. They ensure that you are resting and taking it easy. They may play with other young children, offer you and your partner basic baby care and breastfeeding information, run errands, or help prepare meals. Trained postpartum doulas are there for guidance, to facilitate your confidence, and to help you tap into your innate mothering instincts.
