What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray Kee) is a natural and gentle hands-on healing technique that originated in Japan. "Rei" means universal and "ki" means life force energy.
Reiki is an energy healing modality that treats the physical, mental, and spiritual imbalances of the body. The Reiki practitioner channels Universal Energy to the areas of your body where you need it most. This Universal Energy is all around us. You can feel it yourself by holding your hands close together, but not touching, and feel the warmth between your hands. That warmth is your own energy. A skilled practitioner is able to direct the flow of energy to areas of your body to remove blockages and allow the free flow of energy though your body. Reiki is a deeply relaxing treatment that can leave you feeling calm, centered, and vibrant.
How does Reiki Work?
During a session, the reiki energy flows through the practitioner’s hands to the person receiving reiki. The practitioner is a conduit for the energy to flow where it is needed most, whether that be for physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual needs. It does not take the place of traditional medical care, rather it complements care.
What to Expect During Your Reiki Session
We begin your session by finding out and discussing your intention for your Reiki session. Then you will receive your Reiki treatment fully clothed on the table, lying on your back, side lying, or even laying on our pregnancy wedges. We use an intuitive approach as we lay our hands directly on your body or slightly above using gentle hand movements to assess and direct the energy flow. While you receive Reiki and blockages are released you may feel physical or even emotional response to the opening of your energy channels. Warmth, tingling, and twitches are common signs of release. You may even notice that your body is filled with more energy and that you leave with a feeling of expansion in your body.
Reiki for the Childbearing Years
We are very fond of practicing Reiki on women during preconception, pregnancy, or postpartum time. During this time of transition in a women's life, Reiki is a great way to heal and prepare the body for conception, alleviate aches and pains of pregnancy, and recover from childbirth.
Recent studies report that regular Reiki sessions during pregnancy greatly reduces stress and anxiety, pain during pregnancy, nausea and morning sickness, and improves pregnant women's quality of sleep. Also, babies in utero share their mothers emotional state, thus babies benefit from a relaxing Reiki session as well. Reiki is a wonderful way to nurture yourself and bond with your child.
